China's Railway Tech- training advances in Kenya

China's modern railway technology- training is advancing in Africa as Kenya becomes hub for railway training.

"One of China's major infrastructure projects in Africa is construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) running from Kenya's port city Mombasa to Nairobi and to the western bordertown, Malaba," reports CCTV news.

The recently completed project which is valued at US$4 Billion and providing up to 30, 000 jobs to unemployed locals can further pave way for Kenya to be the central technical training hub for
Railway construction experts in Central and east Africa.

Kenya's Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Irungu Nyakera,  annouced last week shortly before completing the project that China Road and Bridge Corporation
(CRBC) has granted another $US10 million fund to put in place Kenya's Railway Training Institute (RTI).

The funding will be channeled to constructing a tower to accommodate the hub. Railway
specialists from these countries(Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the
Congo ) can then have access to cutting-edge railway construction training at RTI.

Kenya is sending lecturers and engineering students field to China to fulfill their rail engineering degree
programs. Ten RTI lecturers are already in China receiving training.
Another 40 lecturers are expected to arrive in the next few months.
